Master Program “Stroke” – Medical School – Democritus University of Thrace

This website provides useful information about the Master – Postgraduate Program “Stroke” of the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace. This Program was firstly organized the academic year 2014-2015.

Stroke is one of the main causes of death and disability. The World Stroke Organization estimates that 1 out of 4 people will experience a stroke during his lifetime (WSD 2019). In Greece, recent epidemiological data (EVROS stroke registry, Stroke 2018) revealed one of the highest incidence in Europe. The action plan for Europe (SAFE-ESO, Int J Stroke 2018) and the main goals of the “ Action Plan for Stroke in Greece” (Hellenic Neurological Society, Hellenic Society for Vascular Disease, Hellenic Alliance for Stroke – www.jneurology.gr, Neurologia 28:4, 2019) require specialized education.

All mentioned above indicate the importance of the holistic management of stroke and vascular disease in general, involving physicians, emergency and primary health care personnel as well as general health professionals, involved in all phases of the stroke patient management from the very acute phase to rehabilitation and support.

This is the aim of our postgraduate program. We are making every effort for high quality education, through the participation of specialists from Democritus University of Thrace and other Universities and Research Centers in Greece as well as invited speakers from Europe and USA. This website provides general information about the program and helpful education material for program students
